1.       Favorite YA book?
My favorite Young Adult book is, without a doubt, Where The Red Fern Grows”, by Wilson Rawls. This book was first read to me by my fourth grade teacher and that woman choked out every single word at the end drawing tears from my eyes as well. This was the first book that ever made me cry. I remember going home and telling my mother that I wanted her to select this as one of her choices from her Double Day Book Club subscription. I read that book over and over until I felt I was one with Billy. It was all I talked about, this book. I have since loaned copy ofter copy to many other kids and not ever received it back. I like to think that they fell it love with it every bit as much as I did. This is the most purchased book I own.
2.       It’s a meatless meal night. You eat…
Grilled-Cheese, glass of milk and some variety of fruit.
3.       Football or baseball?
Football, because baseball has never grabbed me. However I must say that my favorite sport to watch is MMA Fights.
4.       Look at your bookshelf. Top shelf, left to right, what are the first five books you see? No cheating!
Stephen King’s, “Cujo”, “Desperation””, “The Regulators”, “Needful Things”, and “Insomnia”.
5.       Average night. Eat in, eat out, or takeout?
Eat in.
6.       Favorite meal to cook?
Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, and Corn on the Cob.
7.       Favorite TV show when you were a kid?
It is weird, I know. But M*A*S*H was my favorite.
8.       Favorite TV show now?
Well, I am a little late in getting sucked into any shows that are current. But one show that I thought was absolutely fabulous was the HBO show, “DEADWOOD”. The show stopped after only three seasons, totally bummed me out.
9.       Best teacher you ever had…
Fourth grade, Mrs. Cooper. See question one… =)
10.   What did they teach you?
Mrs. Cooper had a passion for reading to her class. She read to us every single day. It was my favorite time of the day, just before last bell rang, I would get to listen to her read. She read from Judy Blume, Susan Cooper, and Jack London. And as I type this answer, I feel a need to pause… how powerful is that? It is now me who is doing the reading out-loud.
11.   Tell us something you did as a kid that no one/very few people know about.
Both of my parents worked, so my siblings and I were raised by sitters during the day and during summer break, until I of course became old enough to watch everyone myself. So my supervision was minimal. There was this very cute boy with sandy blond bangs that always hung in his eyes, who lived across the street from my sitter and he wouldn’t come over unless I kissed him. This was when I was in the 6th grade and like all six graders, I did not want to kiss a boy! Eww! Cooties. But dear Lord, he was so cute! Well, there I was pacing the sidewalk, back and forth, begging the only kid my age to come and play. He refused. So, I caved. I won’t ever forget seeing Sean’s little hazel eyes popping from across the street as he brushed his bangs back when I told him to meet me behind the bushes. Yep, the bushes. Rhododendrons in fact. I made him hold his hands behind his back and close his eyes (no peeking!) and pucker up. My first kiss was with Sean, who smelled of PB&J, behind the bushes and you can bet your ass there were strange sparks flying. His face was pink and I could feel the heat from mine when we were done. Whew! After that we shook hands and Sean and I played tag.
12.   Tell us something you did this year that no one/very few people know about.
Hmm, well, this may be a little more than a year ago now but the most challenging and exciting thing that I have personally done is participate in an MMA cage fight. I have trained for several years in several disciplines of the martial arts and wanted to test myself. Training for the fight was phenomenal! It was the most intense training I have ever done and if anyone out there has ever known what it means to “dig deep”, I would like to shake hands with you. To work your body and mind until you think it is going to break and then find that, indeed you can do one more… then you can do another. The most astounding moment during training was when I felt the machine of my body working. Food, sleep, training was all fuel, I was unstoppable.
13.   What one clothing item can you not live without?
Socks in the winter, tank-tops in the summer.
14.   Zombies, vampires or werewolves?
Bram Stoker’s Dracula, no substitutes.
15.   Anything you haven’t written about that you desperately want to?
M/M erotica. I just come off too clunky for my liking.
16.   Anything you’ve written about that you desperately wish you hadn’t?
Nope. Everything I write is practice for the next thing I write.
17.   Do you finish a book that is terrible or put it down?
If there are absolutely zero redeeming qualities, then I will not finish it.
18.   Do you review terrible books or pass on saying anything at all?
Pass on the review, but I do try to be positive and tell an author what was good and encourage them to start again in a private email.
19.   Do you read reviews of your work?
Always.
20.   Red wine or white wine?
Red.
